Re: Dvd Drive

put simply, you're going to need to open your computer case, locate your dvd drive, and make sure that the cables (whatever is plugged into your dvd drive) are secure, push them firmly in place.

Re: Dvd Drive

What does trhe soare lead look like? It's most likely just a spare.
Right Click "My Computer"-Properties-Hardware-Device Manager-left clik the "+" sign located next to "DVD/CD-Rom Drives"-are there any Yellow Exclamation Marks?

Re: Dvd Drive

first of all go to 'CONTROL PANEL' then click 'SYSTEM' then go over to 'HARDWARE' and click 'DEVICE MANAGER' then click the small '+' sign beside 'CDROM' and your dvd drive model and number should come up. Is there a yellow exclamation mark beside it????

Re: Dvd Drive

Martin has been communicating with me through IM, so I'll give you the lowdown. His DVD drive doesn't appear in Device Management, My Computer, or even in Bios.

He has confirmed that the cables are secure.

Re: Dvd Drive

Oh right... i thought it might have been a registry error.

something similar happened to me although not as extreme. i could see my drive in device managment but not in my computer. it turned out to be a registry error and i used this to fix it.

http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts_d...cd_dvd_fix.htm

It's a longshot then but it's worth a try martin. hope this helps.

Re: Dvd Drive

if it is not being seen by the bios it will not be seen anywhere

the problem is either

wrong jumper setting on the back of the drive

failed data cable

faulty drive

unlikely but possible bad ide or sata slot on the m/b
