DVD drive won't open--dead?
I have a Sony Optiarc DVD burner (uncertain on the exact model) that I scavenged from an old HP Pavilion and I think it's finally bought the farm. See, it won't open. At all. I've tried the button, right click and eject, and using a pin in that little hole, and it refuses to open. It still reads fine, and I'm guessing it will write (can't really test that without a blank DVD, though), but now I have an Ubuntu disk stuck in my computer that tries to boot every time I turn it on.
If it's possible to fix this I'd like to know how, but if not I'm going out to Best Buy to buy a new drive later this afternoon. Normally I'd buy off Newegg, but I need this right away, can't wait for delivery. I'd be looking for a DVD+/-RW DVD burner in the $20-40 price range that has decent write speeds and will last at least a year or two without dying on me. Preferably SATA. Don't really care about brand, as long as it works. And it has to be sold at Best Buy. Anyone have any advice?
