[SOLVED] CD ROM Drives won't read insall disks but read other disks fine
Hi.
Computer: Dell Dimension 3000 One CD-ROM drive - Read (D:) One CD-ROM drive - Read/Write (E:) Problem: In a nutshell, both of the CD-ROM drives can't see setup/install disks but can see everything else. If I put in a professional audio cd, it works fine. If I put in a home-made cd with lots of folders and mp3 files, it works. But if I put in a professional setup/install disk for Office 2007 or Dreamweaver, it doesn't even recognize that a cd is in the drive. In "my computer", the hardware section sees the drives and shows that they are functioning properly. The "eject" function ejects the drive with no problem. But I can't install Office 2007 because it recognize that a cd is in the drive. If I try to "explore", it says "Please insert disk in drive D:". Typing D:Setup.exe doesn't work either. This happens for both my D: and E: drives. Thanks, Mike |

Re: CD ROM Drives won't read insall disks but read other disks fine
Are the Office 2007 & Dreamweaver discs CD or DVD?
You can try this: http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts_d...cd_dvd_fix.htm

Re: CD ROM Drives won't read insall disks but read other disks fine
Tyree, I would prefer not to try the link you sent because that is for systems that won't recognize the drive. My system recognizes the drive but doesn't recognize install disks only.
thanks, Mike |

Re: CD ROM Drives won't read insall disks but read other disks fine
Bruiser, you're right! How stupid of me. Whereas my other machine worked fine, this machine is so old that DVD drives weren't standard when it was made.
Thanks, Mike |

@ Bruiser; that was where I was going.
@ Mikey1961; the link I posted is completely safe to use and I've seen it fix some strange optical drive issues. Anyway, glad we got you on your way.

Thanks Tyree, both of you lead me to the answer and I appreciate it. I shared out the dvd rom reader of my other (newer) machine to the old machine and I can install off of that. Thanks again.
