[SOLVED] help: im baffled

ok im not the worst with computers but recently i installed a sata dvd rw drive. i am using a pci card as an extension to make the mobo sata. if i hook up the drive data cable while the computer is already on it runs fine and works. but if it is plugged in while the computer is off and i turn it on i get an error " boot disk failure please insert system disk and press enter" i unplug the data cable and restart it and it boots fine any ideas?
