Fat32

I have a My Book external drive the was working with both my mac and pc. However, putting it to my mac it states that it is not recognized (when it previously was). I go into System Profiler under USB and it's there. Why can I not access it? Formatting is not an option. I have to much important stuff on this drive to lose it.
Please help!!!!!

Not familiar with mac's. Unless there is a reason I would convert to
ntfs, no harm to the data should come of it. Once you convert you
cant go back to fat32.
