DVD writer not working

Hi all,

I have a licensed copy of Net Protector anti-virus installed.

My sony DVD writer was working nicely. But now in my Nero Express, All options I can see is Image Recorder and not the actual dvd writer.

It plays the cd's and dvd's, but can't write to them.

Is there any other software (especially, free) than Nero? How to get it?

I have my hard disk full and want to backup a lot of data. I uninstalled Nero and resinstalled it. but the problem persists.

Is it because of a virus? Please help me.
