Dvd Burner is a CD Drive
Hi everyone. I am not a tech savy person at all so please be gentle with me. I am having a problem with my dvd burner. I have a phillips dvd burner that came with my dell computer about five years ago. I have had little to no problems with it other than the odd cleaning, well until now!
Well here is the problem. I can watch and play dvds on it but I can't burn a dvd with it! The porgrams I use to convert and burn will convert the clip to a dvd product but they won't recognize the dvd burner. I use ConvertXtoDVD and EasyDVDCreator. To make sure that it wasn't just the programs I uninstalled both programs and even installed DVD Decryptor which I use to use. All three can't find the burner. In My Computer the burner shows up as CD Drive. I have one CD Rom which is never in use and a DVD Burner and both show as a CD Drive. I need some help. I would like to know what I can do to the computer before I go out and buy a new burner! Thanks for reading in advance! |

Re: Dvd Burner is a CD Drive
Have you ever burnt a DVD on that drive I don't mean played one but burnt one? I would guess (but I could be wrong) that going by the age of your computer that it is a CD burner and a DVD ROM meaning it can read CD and DVD but only write to CD
If you think I am wrong then go to My Computer and right click on the drive and select properties then select the hardware tab you can click on the troubleshoot button and answer the questions. Good luck |

Re: Dvd Burner is a CD Drive
Oh yes I have burnt DVDs on the burner before. I tried burning one movie the other day and it didn't work, my tv dvd player wouldn't play it. The second one I tried burned and no problem playing. The third did not work, just like the first one. Same day I tried burning a cd, just music full eighty minutes, and the last 6 songs would not burn onto the cd. I have used the burner for DVDs and CDs. Just in the past two days I can't burn DVDs. Its kinda like the programs can't see the burner!

Re: Dvd Burner is a CD Drive
You could try a CD Lens cleaner
http://www.dse.com.au/cgi-bin/dse.st.../product/C7119 or considering the cost go the way Tyree has suggested |
