Hi,
Hoping someone can help, a colleague of mine is having a huge problem with her memory stick. It is an Itegral 1.0g stick and it has simply stopped working. It has a light on it which is not lighting up at all and the stick is not recognised in 'My Computer' by Autorun OR in Device Manager. It seems as if there is no power getting to the stick but it has been tried in numerous computers with the same result every time. Is there a way to fix this without it being sent away and taken apart? There is very important information on the stick which is needed fairly urgently. Please please please can you help us - thanks in advance Harrisan |

Re: 'Integral' memory stick not working
Quote:
Basicly these memory sticks [Mass storage Devices] have to be diss-connected from computer systems carfuly. When the stick is inuse and connected tot he system, it is very, very important that when diss-connecting the memory stick that you 'safley remove the hardware' . To do this you simply left click on the what looks like a green icon which apears near the clock, what is usually at the right hand side of the monitor, then click 'safley remove the hardware' and it will show you the storage devices connected tot he system, then you click 'stop' on your mass storage devise. The light on the stick then goes out on most memory sticks but as long as you click stop the mass storage device and the computer systems says 'it is now safe to remove the mass storage divice' it is safe to do so. Just pulling the memory stick out of the system will currupt the stick, also the stick can become damaged in other ways which could be the cause for the stick to become non-functual. It sounds here that your memory stick has become currupt or broken ether by what i have mentioned above which is the most common way in which these memory sticks become broken. With regards to the important information on the stick. It is always recomended that all mass storage devices, sticks / memory cards are backed-up to avoud such losses of important and critical data stored on them. It is unlikley for you to retreive the data on the stick at this time. But replacing the memory stick and backing up the information which you wish to put on the stick, expecialy if it is important imformation will always be the best idea.
