can not burn dvd[MOVED FROM WINDOWS]

I have tried using different formats of dvd's, none of the software on my pc recognizes the disc. I have no trouble with cd's. I have Acer laptop using a slimtype dvd c ds24czp ata device. I am running vista home premium. The device shows up in my computer, have tried registry fix w/ acer tech support(useless tech support I might add). I have all kinds of software for burning dvds none of them see the disc. All it says is insert disc. when I place cd in the drive it recognizes it right away.

Re: can not burn dvd

Hi & Welcome, highcloud!

Just to clarify, you have installed and updated all your drivers for your CD-ROM drive, correct?

What is the exact model of your Acer laptop? Also, is this your CD-ROM drive?

Yeah, that's true GG. It might be the laser - I've had many laser issues in my time - too many to count (literally, I go through lots of optical drives and lasers I used to build PS2s, etc).

Re: can not burn dvd[MOVED FROM WINDOWS]

Well I finally found what I've been looking for even tho it was not what I wanted to hear.
Another person wrote this on a different tech site;
WRONG! I just spent 2 hours on the phone as well as physically pulled the drive. Read below.

I am currently working off a Acer Aspire 3680-2682 model with a Slimtype LITE-ON DVD C DS24CZP "DVD/CD-RW Combo" as labeled. I am running Windows Vista Basic with NTI 7 Gold (bundled software) and Roxio Media Creator 10 running. This is NOT a software issue!

This drive presented in the Acer Aspire 3680 series known as "Slimtype (LITE-ON) DVD C DS24CZP ATA Device" in Device Manager is a DVD-ROM only!

Acer technical department confirms that this device CAN NOT write DVDs at all because it is only a DVD-ROM. The labeling is written as containing a "DVD/CD-RW Combo" but does not make it clear that this device CAN NOT write to DVDs. There is no driver to correct this problem. There is no software to cause it to become something different than it is.

If you question this please flp this unit over, remove the single center screw that lines up with the CD drawer and pull the device out (WITH THE UNIT OFF!) You will note the devices label states it is a DVD-ROM.

If it says something other that "DVD-ROM / CD-RW" across the top of the label you may be one of the lucky few who did NOT get an Acer with the substandard parts. These were standard issue to all those Acer Aspire 3680's that were sold through Walmart.

Now, with that said, some of you may be also interested in knowing that "Device Not Present" when flipping on your Bluetooth button, means they ALSO did not include this transmitter or receiver on building this model. They only included the equipment and program to make it ready to use, but not the actual hardware.

!!!- NOTICE THIS -!!!

I hope that (as I have seen many complain about these issues) everyone will pass along this information and a word of caution about purchasing a new ACER PC in the future. Acer has a policy of labeling ALL it's computers laptop and desktop alike, with ALL the possible features of it's top of the line model and a "* Specifications vary depending on model" disclaimer on ALL external boxes and demo labels. THIS MEANS YOU WILL GET WHAT YOU GET, NOT, repeat NOT(!!) WHAT YOU SEE! Acer has been informed of this on their marketing in both the UK and US. They stand by their base stance that they are doing nothing wrong in advertising for a DIFFERENT system on the external box and PC labels.

Acer Customer Contact in USA:
1-800-816-2237 Contact REF: #1-4I9BYV

ACER AMERICA: 1-800-816-2237 or 1-866-621-2237
REF#: 090304-001224

Need to buy the right DVD-RW drive? They have 3 main companies which carry this part in stock by Acer Model number.

Capital Data Corp.
1-800-999-4409

Express Computers
1-800-557-1943

Kahlon Comapny
1-800-317-9989

My name is (no personal info or advertising allowed)

I hope I have been of assistance to all of us who were taken in by the Acer scam. Keep in mind they are (as of this writing) the 3rd largest and 2nd most bought PC in the world. I do not work for, nor am employed by ANY PC company. I am an independent computer re-builder and my interest is solely in seeing this information brought to the public eye. I welcome any feedback.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well I did all this and it seems to be the case so I guess I will have no recourse but to complain to acer(not that it will do any good)I was lead to believe this was dvd writable drive especially since it was bundled with all kinds of software to record tv ect... thanks so much for your help.
