computer won't recognize cd discs and usb devices

When I insert a cd disc in the cd drive, I hear very little spinning then it suddenly stops and then nothing happens or pops up on the desktop. And then I open "My Computer" and I see "Audio CD(F:)" but it says it has 0 bytes and then I click on it and it gives me the tracks in CDA files which I don't know what that exactly is. But before I could pop the cd in and I would hear the spinning sound and on my desktop I'd get a list of options, like to play the media in real player, burn or windows media player. This problem started happening from months ago after my computer got a virus problem and then I got rid of the viruses and stuff and then I tried putting cds in and nothing would happen. And its almost the same for my camera and I recently got a new zune and the computer doesn't recognize it at all. For the camera which is sony, I would normally get a list of options too but now I plug it in, I have to go to "My Computer" and copy and paste the pictures from a folder. For the zune, I think the computer's supposed to tell me it recognizes new hardware or something right? But nothing happens at all and I see nothing that shows me a zune is connected under device manager but I think it can charge because I see a battery sign on the player.

So can anyone help me with this please thanks?

Re: computer won't recognize cd discs and usb devices

Download and install Malwarebytes (free version). Boot the PC into Safe Mode, turn OFF System Restore-run Malwarebytes and a good Anti-Virus app.
What OS are you using? After you are certain the PC is clean of infections and the problem still persists; XP you could do a Repair Install and Vista you can use a Vista Recovery Disc to attempt a repair.
