Dell Latitude D630, will not "see" the HDD iOmega HDD ext hard drive.

I am new to this forum, and anxious to get my iOmega issue resolved. Essentially, my new computer, a Dell Latitude D630, will not "see" the HDD iOmega ext hard drive. Indeed, when I plug it into the USB port, it locks up entire computer - can't do anything; all apps frozen, all the while the HDD is "running" loudly. When I unplug the iOmega from the laptop, all is OK and runs fine. Any thoughts?

Hi rws266,

Have you tried using the external drive on other computers?

Yes, I've tried it with another Dell Lat D630 - same thing. Have not tried it with any other computer.

Re: Dell Latitude D630, will not "see" the HDD iOmega HDD ext hard drive.

Also, I did get this note when I removed all the iOmega files on my computer. Did a final search, and following notes came up (which were all greek to me):

Microsoft Windows XP Setup has detected an Iomega Zip drive connected to the parallel port on your computer. Some installed tools for the Iomega Zip drive will not work properly after upgrading to Windows XP if your Iomega Zip drive is connected to the parallel port on your computer.

Although Windows XP does contain embedded support for the Iomega Zip drive, the drivers for this device will be disabled during the upgrade. It is recommended that you uninstall the Iomega Zip drive tools before continuing.

For more information about this driver, visit the manufacturer's Web site.

For a list of devices supported by this version of Microsoft Windows, see the Microsoft Windows XP Compatibility List at http://www.microsoft.com/isapi/redir.dll?prd=whistler&ar=help&sba=compatible"
