DVD Drive Problems

I am running Vista Home Premium and am having problems with the DVD RW drive. It will recognize and play a music CD and read a data CD, but when I insert a DVD of any type [DVD Movie, DVD Program Installation or DVD data disc] the computer does not recognize it. Instead I get a message to "Please insert a disk in drive ..] and the drawer opens. Also, when I eject a CD I get the following: "Exception Processing Message 0xc0000013"

Following the thread for that message, I have disabled all start up programs per one of the suggestions, but this did not help. Another suggestion is to uninstall the drivers for all removable disks. I have not tried that yet, but would do it if anyone thinks it would apply to this problem.

Re: DVD Drive Problems

hi and welcome i found this which indicates a card reader http://support.microsoft.com/kb/942682/en-us?sd=gn which seems odd but if you have one then i suppose it could be possible the uninstall i think would be the device rather than the driver then a reboot and windows will reinstall and this has worked for others

Re: DVD Drive Problems

Thanks. It looks like this may be the answer since the error messages listed in the Microsoft memo are identical to mine. I've sent for the hotfix but haven't received it yet.

It this fails I just may have a hardward problem.

Re: DVD Drive Problems

That sounds like anti-piracy software kicking in, to me. I used Hewlet Packard Lightscribe DVD RW to back up my HP TX2000 partition, alright.

I have never been able to view a prerecorded, Hollywood DVD on a PC because anti-piracy software blocked it.

Sure, on a DVD player I could.

Some Rewritable CD's and DVD's made by Sony failed on me also, but Fuji and Memorex (who DO NOT own 1/4 of the global entertainment/Hollywood franchise as Sony does) also always worked fine.

Try a different brand of recordable DVD. Also avoid using Windows Media Player to record anything because it has DRM (digital rights management) which Apple.com is at war with, and has apparently prevailed thanks to Steve's Job.

Albest,
