[SOLVED] DVD-ROM drive not showing up
I have an old Compaq Evo N600c I want to reinstall XP Home on and wipe it clean, but the CD drive doesn't show up under my computer. I tried installing a new driver (SD-c2512) but that doesn't work. Also, I tried to uninstall the device and restart the computer but that doesn't work either. Anyone have any ideas? Here is the error I get when I look at the properties of the drive:
Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39) |

Re: DVD-ROM drive not showing up
Have you viewed some of the BIOS updates and driver updates for your machine? XP's generic driver should load the driver as you have mentioned. Possibly your CD device is faulty. http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport...&swEnvOID=1098

Re: DVD-ROM drive not showing up
Have you tried another drive? See if someone as one laying around that you could borrow. It sounds like the drive is fault, to be honest with you.

Re: DVD-ROM drive not showing up
Easy one try this: start, run and type regedit:
expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Currentcontrolset\Control\Class click {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} in the right pane now look for: UpperFilters LowerFilters <DELETE these Reboot pc, Now check under my computer to see if your cd drive shows up now? Let me know if this solves the problem. |
