Problem With DVD Drive

Hi Everyone,
I hope this is in the correct section.
I have an emachines 610, system model.. MS6777, It wasn't new when I bought it.
The lower dvd drive for burning will not recognise any dvd's at all. I only get a message saying.. no disc in drive. It will recognise some cd's, but when I use some from the same pack as the one's that work, I get a message saying.. please insert a writable disc.
The top drive for playing only used to work fine, but sometimes it won't recognise any dvd's/cd's now.
I took out the bottom drive and installed a different dvd drive I had that I know works. But, now there are no cd/dvd drives listed anywhere on my pc. When I play a disc in the new one I can here it working, but it doesn't show anywhere.
I'm not too technical, but I hope someone out there can help.

Many thanks in advance.

H key_local _machine <system<control set<control<class <4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318
click in this entry
delete lower and upper filter keys .
