Computer restarts upon insertion of CD
Okay, I was going along ripping my CD library to an external hard drive. No problems. Then, out of the blue, the DVD/CD burner drive began to restart whenever I would insert a CD to rip it. I went to Dell website and updated drivers, did not help.
Replaced Power Supply, did not help. I am ABLE to burn a disc in Roxio no problem, but whenever I insert a music disc, it restarts before it even asks me what program I want to use to open it. I went in and unchecked the auto-restart, does not help. Still restarts anyway. I am running a Dell Vostro 200 (1 year old) with Windows XP Pro. I spoke with a Dell Tech who didn't even seem to know as much as I did about troubleshooting and that's not saying much! He advised reinstalling OS!! That's what they always say when they can't diagnose the problem. I ran diagnostics and everything came out with green check marks. Says drives are working properly. Should I try buying a new burner anyway? Should I try running a repair to Windows? Is this a hardware or software issue? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!! |
