my cd/dvd drive won't show up[MOVED FROM WINDOWS]

it says my sony cdrw/dvd crx 830E drivers might be corrupted...help!! thanks
I have a dell inspiron 6000 laptop...can't figure out how to get drivers updated since it says they're system drivers provided by microsoft...they have a date of 2001 on them...I tried uninstalling and adding hardware...still doesn't show up as having a cd/dvd drive

Hi,

Does the cd-rom show up in the Device Manager?
What is the error code?

Have you deleted the upper/lower filters?
