Help uploading media from Sony DCR-SR45

Hi there,
just got the sony dcr-sr45 for christmas and i've never had a video camera before. took a bunch of videos, really easy to use, but when i uploaded the media onto my computer using the supplied PMB (picture motion browser), only the still pictures i took with the camera worked. the videos are showing up, but without preview shots and when i click to play them they don't work. i know very little about computers and cameras, so the combination is tough for me!

the videos have squares that are grey with a white lightning bolt looking thing through them, thus telling me that they are not working lol. i know i probably need to change something on either my computer or the camera, but have no idea where to even start. any help even if it's not complete would be greatly appreciated!
