Re: Uninstalling CD drive?
Go to Control panel->system. Click on the hardware tab and then device manager. Click on the "+" next to CD/DVD drives, choose the one you want to uninstall, right-click and choose uninstall. When you reboot windows, it should detect the drive as new hardware and reinstall the appropriate driver. You do not need to be connected to the internet for this as long as you are happy with the windows default driver for this drive. If you want to update the driver after it is installed, you need to be connected to the net.

Re: Uninstalling CD drive?
Oh, and BTW, if you don't find a "system" in control panel, click on "switch to classic view" in the left hand pane.

Re: Uninstalling CD drive?
Can you post the exact model number of the drive? Have you tried it with many DVD's or just one? If just one, does that DVD play on other computers or other DVD drives?

Re: Uninstalling CD drive?
Is it the dvd drive that is not playing the DVD or is it the playback software such as windows media player? Are you getting sound but no video? You may not have the proper video codecs installed to view video.
