need help with my DVD+/-R/W/RAM / CD-R/W drive

OK heres the story, I got this video game (LOTRO) for X-mas, brought it home, put disc 1 in my PC, and it creaked and squeaked a couple times, then nothing, it won't recognize the disc in the tray. So I put in disc 2, this time it spun and read it but didnt play it, all it did was offer me the option of looking at the files on that disc.
then i put in a regular dvd and an old game that used to work on the PC, and it did the same thing as with disc 1

my question is if there is some easy way out of this, or do i need a new drive?

by the way my PC is an E-machines with Vista model No. T5254

Do you have any errors in the Device Manager (yellow !)
Do you see the DVD-Rom in My Computer?
Will the disc open in My Computer?

Does the BIOS detect the DVD-Rom?

To enter the BIOS reboot the system
On the splash screen you should see hit F1, F2, ESC, DEL or similar to enter setup (Bios).

Re: need help with my DVD+/-R/W/RAM / CD-R/W drive

HI,
If you have no errors in the Device Manager
Deleted the Upper/lower filters
Uninstalled and Reinstalled the drivers and programs
Checked or replaced the IDE/SATA cable connections.

Have you checked for a FIRMWARE update?
What is the make and model of this DVD/CD-ROM?

The only other thing I can think of is a faulty DVD/CD-Rom.
Bill
