Hi, I wonder if anyone of u could help me! First of all, my english is not my first language so I apologies for any mistake that may occur. I am having problems with my cd/dvd device and Nero burning suite. The cd-s are burning well, both audio and data cd, but when I try to burn any dvd it won't work. I mention that my cd/dvd device is RW and in the past I was capable to burn any kind of dvd with it. I also mention that recently I had to reinstall the windows due to a virus problem. I reinstalled windows from the same cd that came with my laptop, which is a Compaq R3000. I have win XP SP2 and Nero 7. The cd/dvd driver is TEAC DV-W24EW and it seems to be in order in my computer/ device manager. To make it even clearer I attach for you the error that appear when I try to burn a dvd. Please help me with any kind of suggestions as I am running out of my nerves here and empty dvds If you need additional information about my operating system please let me know. Thanks.

Re: The cd is burning ok but it won't burn dvd or data dvd
The laser for the dvd may be obstructed, or burnt out. There are
two separate lasers, one for the cd side, one for the dvd side.. Try blowing the drive out with compressed air, worth a shot.

Re: The cd is burning ok but it won't burn dvd or data dvd
But than it shouldn't read also dvd-s, no? Because it plays dvds very well. And one more thing, when I insert a blank dvd it appears with no capacity, 0, and file system raw. If that make any difference!
I will try anyway to blow the drive out and see what's happening. Thank you. Last edited by miska3320; 01-04-2009 at 01:23 PM. |

Re: The cd is burning ok but it won't burn dvd or data dvd
manic's idea is valid, however, here are a few ideas. By the way, I wish people who speak and write English as a first language, would care enough to communicate as well as you. 1) If the DVD player functions, why not record? When you reinstalled Windows operating system, did you also have, and use, an "Application and Driver Recovery DVD"?
Another option to check and/or restore drivers, which I have used on only 1 computer successfully, is http://www.pcdriverdoctor.com Be carefull though, wait to see if anyone thinks this is not your best option. Most important, have you gone to Microsoft Windows Update? You also may need to reconfigure automatic update. Remember, you said it used to burn DVDs ok. Are you burning the same type, I mean movie, data, iso image? Don't forget to go back to Nero, get any updates, read FAQs, ask for support, and even remove, and reinstall. Did I forget to mention that LANGUAGE, or country of use, may be the problem? You may even have to lie to your computer. Where did you buy it? Can you ask them for any free help? Another idea, remembering though, that it used to work, try http://www.burn4free.com Skip any pop-up ads. I have used this for nearly a year, and am totally satisfied. 2) manic's suggestion, compressed air in a can; the can should have a plastic nozzle, (red tube, miniature straw). Note, if the can is used upright, it blows compressed air, upside-down, it blows freeze spray. Keep the can up. Open the CD/DVD tray, as if you were going to insert a disc. Set the laptop on the edge of a table, with the open disc tray extending out. Simply spray the air into the inside of the open tray from as many angles as possible, while keeping the can upright. You may insert the nozzle into the open slot, sometimes far back and some times not as far. Keep a finger on top of the nozzle, or tube, because, sometimes it will eject like a rocket due to the high pressure. The lasers usually sit near the center of the player, until activated. Remember to mark this as solved, even if you find another solution, from another source. It is most helpful, and you know the frustrations, when the answer is available. Blessings, and best of luck! Re: The cd is burning ok but it won't burn dvd or data dvd
Thanks techee 1 for your help and also for your consideration about my english. It relly was useful! Now it works fine, it turn out that it was only a dvd mark problem. I change the dvd's and now it works. I didn't know that I have to mark this as solved, I will do it at once.
