Hello. Im having a sudden problem with my HP DVD writer 630c.

I noticed a couple of weeks ago, my drive just stopped reading discs.
Which is not rare but not common either. It does that on rare occasions. So i figured I'd just restart the computer and it'll be okay.

I did that and it still would not read any discs. So i payed no mind to it, cause i didnt really need to use it at that moment.

Now, I finally need to use it to make a Windows XP install disc so i may make a 2nd operating system on my pc. So i decided to burn it, causei just got a 5 pack of CD's.

Now usually they burn with no problem, but one disc was close to being done burning and strangly failed, i put in a second disc, it failed about quarter way through, put in a 3rd disc (used a different program now) and tried burning it, came back, didnt seem like it burned at all. Now im trying my 4th disc and it finally burned right.

Now problem being, it cant read discs. CD-R, CD-RW,DVD-R,DVD-RW...nothing. Infact, it acts like nothing is even in the CD tray, and asks you to put in a disk if you go to my computer and right click and click on explore or Open.

It suddenly started this a coupld of weeks ago, i didnt do anything significant on my system. I have a virtual CD RoM program on my pc, but it was working fine ever since i got it (which is a few months now).

I dont understand what the problem is, i tried to see if it was a driver problem or something, and tried updating it, it didnt need updateing.

I searched around on the net to find anyone with a similar problem to me, which in fact I found some, but their problems differed slightly.

I'm running Windows 2000 SP4 (which i upgraded to almost 5 months ago)

Now i cant make me a second operating system (WinXP) on my 2nd internal hardrive because my drive cant read. And i dont exactly have finances to get me another one anytime soon.

Can someone help me with this please, or tell me any possible problems it maybe?

what does the bios list your 12v line voltage as

Lately its been saying Complition Area Full right aftr File Caching.

I would i check how much voltage?

do you have enough space on the hard drive

I dont know how to get to hardware monitoring you mentioned in bios.

And i actually have very little space in my C harddrive. But i have no real way of clearing space, cause the drive is very very small in capacity. Only holding 3 GB which most of the operating system is taking up. The reason why i want to make the disc in the first place is because i want to make an XP install disc so i can install XP on my secondary internal Harddrive that houses a capacity of 80 GB, so the pc wont automatically rely on the 3GB drive to extract files and whatnot.

But my harddrive always hardly had anyspace. And i was able to burn discs and play fine now. But now recently burn attempts are failing.

when you burn a disk it compiles it on the hard drive for burning,it looks like it is failing due to insufficient space
if you cannot fit another internal what about an external

My other internal drive has more than enough space, and I have an external drive with even more space.

is it pointed to those drives to work from
they usually default to a folder C unless you change it

I appointed them to the bigger drives. But sometimes it reads the discs very rarely and other times it doesnt. Cause i actually had found it working the other day., but then it just stopped reading discs on it own. Now the drive doesnt even recongnize blank discs when its entered into the tray just now.
