Enabling DMA mode issue.

Hey,

I got fallout 3 today for my pc and the disk doesn't read. The drive reads other dvds and the dvd works on other computers so that isn't the isssue. When I looked at the tech support forums for the game it state that this might be a PIO/UDMA issue, and provided a fix for this.

The problem is that to enable DMA mode it says i need to right click on an icon in device manager that isn't there. I googled to see if there was another method and there wasn't. It says I should be looking for the IDE ATA/ATAPI controller, but that isn't liste in my device manager.

Any help would be aprreciated.

Re: Enabling DMA mode issue.

Look in Device Manager for "View" at the top. Is is set to view Devices by type? There are also other choices to customize the view. Maybe some thing needs to be checked there.

Everything is ticked, and hidden devices are shown.

Re: Enabling DMA mode issue.

Ok, I found the the primary and secondary ATA/ATAPI controller tags, however there were a few issues. One is that they were listed under a tab named unknown, secondly there were two of each tab in the tab, and thirdly it was already set to DMA if available.

Re: Enabling DMA mode issue.

you might need the motherboard disk to reinstall your drivers.
