Hello ,

have you done this ?

Step 1: Start Registry Editor
Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK. Registry Editor starts.
Step 2: Delete the UpperFilters registry entry

1.In Registry Editor, expand My Computer, and then expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
2.Expand SYSTEM, and then expand CurrentControlSet.
3.Expand Control, and then expand Class.
4.Under Class, click {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}.
5.In the right pane (topic area), click UpperFilters.

Note An UpperFilters.bak registry entry may also appear. To delete the UpperFilters registry entry, you must click UpperFilters and not UpperFilters.bak.
6.On the Edit menu, click Delete.
7.When you receive the following message, click Yes to confirm the deletion of the UpperFilters registry entry:
Are you sure you want to delete this value?
The UpperFilters registry entry is removed from the {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} registry subkey.

Note Do not exit Registry Editor. You must have this program for the next step.

7.When you receive the following message, click Yes to confirm the deletion of the LowerFilters registry entry:
Are you sure you want to delete this value? The LowerFilters registry entry is removed from the {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} registry subkey.
8.Exit Registry Editor

Could my issue have something to do with the fact that my system is a OEM?

Re: cant play dvd's

Hello ,

no thats not the issue

okay now are the dvd's protected ? copy righted ? scratched up really bad ?

okay how about the settings for the players ?

like in wmp you may need to go into options and set it to play all file types for some players will take the right for wmp to play them type of players

also check the dvd settings to see if they are set to default or been modifyed

also as a thought / try removing the cd rom from the system and then starting the system so it will see that there is no device installed / then reinstalling it

Re: cant play dvd's

Hello ,

the only thing that i can think of is that the cd-rom is failing and certain parts of it just wont work any more

stop & think it came frome a college and those cd-roms get beat up pretty bad

how old is the computer ?

what department did it come from

the good thing is cd-roms are cheap a dvd player or even a dvd burner will only cost you about $30 to $50 depending on the manufacturer

here is a link to see the prices

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...CD-DVD-Burners

other then doing a remote connect to remove the filters

hope this helps
