[SOLVED] Dell Dimension 3100 TS-H492C DVD/CDRW Drive problem
Hi guys,
A friend has given me their PC to fix as it simply would not boot due to viruses/spyware etc. I've cleared the system of all the problems and its running fine. However, the DVD drive has a problem and before I open the machine up and start replacing IDE cables I want to see if anyone can offer a solution here. The system is a Dell Dimension 3100 running Win XP Home (just updated to SP3) and the drive is a TSST TS-H492C (Samsung I think). The drive is recognised in the bios and is listed in Device Manager, but has the yellow exclamation mark. It is not listed in My Computer. When you click on it in Device Manager it says the driver could not load as it is missing or corrupt. I've tried uninstalling it in Device Manager and rebooting to let Windows recognise it as a new drive and reinstall drivers, but it keeps installing with the excalamation mark. I also tried to flash the drive with the latest firmware but the software requires a boot from floppy and the system doesn't have a floppy drive! Is there anything else I can try before I start checking things internally? Can I also just say a big advance thank-you to you guys for taking the time to read this and also for your replies. Thanks Michael |
