Please help
I have a fairly old computer. It runs XP well, I have had it for over 5 years now. The problem I am having is that when I try and put discs in the drive, 98% of the time my computer drive makes some werid noises like it is trying to read the disc but cant, the light flashes green constantly, before stopping and the computer claims that there is no CD in the drive.
I have tried turning the computer on and off but to no avail, I have no idea what to do. I cant afford a new computer at the moment (A friend of mine is going to build one for me when I can) so I was thinking about getting an external CD drive, however my computer is not a laptop. Does that matter? The thing that is really bugging me about this is that my computer read this same disc before I had to turn my computer off, now it is back on and not working. Im hoping that I have posted this topic in the right area, I was having some trouble trying to find where I should post this. So what can I do? Should I just buy a external CD drive as a temp fix? Or is there something else I can do? |

Re: Please help
Hi,
Welcome to TSF. Lets see if we can get the one installed on this PC up and running. Do you "see" the CD-Rom in MY COMPUTER? Are there any errors in the Device Manager (Yellow !)? If so please post them. Have you uinstalled the CD-Rom Driver in the Device Manager, reboot and let XP reinstall the drivers? This may also help: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060/EN-US/ As far as an external CD-Rom it will make no difference if it is a laptop or PC. I do believe though a new internal CD-Rom is cheaper than an external one. Hope this helps, Bill |

Re: Please help
Hi,
You can unistall the CD-Rom driver safley. XP supplies the drivers to reinstall them. If that fails do this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060/EN-US/ Follow the directions EXACTLY. Bill |
