how to make a usb pen drive bootable for win xp so that I can copy win xp bootable CD contents onto the pen drive and install win xp on my laptop

Your Laptop would have to SUPPORT BOOT from USB and set in the BIOS for BOOT from USB first.
You may not have that option though (many laptops do not).

Why do you want to copy WinXP to a flash drive?
Don't you have a CD-Rom on this laptop?
