[SOLVED] Sata Dvd Rom

I have an ASUS PS800D-X ,with a PENTIUM 4 3gHz processor, 2 gigs of OCZ ram,Western Digital 160 gig sata HDD. running XP all latest updates

I recently replaced my old IDE DVD ROM , with a new SATA DVD model LG GH22LS30 which worked perfect, but i recently reformatted my HDD and now the SATA DVD rom drive doesnt want to work it first took 48 + minutes to burn a regular dvd i tried 3 brands, then it locked up my PC every time i insert a blank disc and now gives the BSOD. I thought it might be the drive so i returned it for a new one and have the same problem. I have the latest BIOS for my board and latest firmware for the burner.

I am after googling too many pages to count trying to fix this please help : (

Re: Sata Dvd Rom

Hi trav257 and welcome to TSF !

Please don't start multiple threads about the same problem, refer to the forum rules. I binned your thread in the XP support section.

Install the latest chipset and sata drivers for your motherboard before you hook the sata DVD rom. Try hooking the DVD drive to another sata port, the HDD should be on SATA 1.

Can't find your motherboard on Asus' website, could you send us a link to its support page ?

Re: Sata Dvd Rom

Make sure you've installed all the latest critical updates from Windows update. There's no chipset drivers available from Asus which means that the chipset should be supported by XP. Else the chipset in charge of the SATA controller is the SIS 964 chipset and you can find IDE and SATA drivers here : http://www.sis.com/download/. Can't hurt to give them a try but start with Windows update.

Refer to the motherboard manual to clear the BIOS settings (clear the RTC RAM in the manual).

What's the exact model of the hard drive and of the DVD drive ? Go to start => run and type devmgmt.msc. Expand disk drives and CD/DVD drives to find the model ID's.

While you're in the device manager check that there's no tagged device in the list (with a yellow or red icon).

Re: Sata Dvd Rom

My board does have the 964 chipset although windows shows it as 180 under SCSI and Raid controllers

my HDD is WDC WD16 00JD-55HB0 SCSI

and DVD ROM is HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GH22LS30 SCSI

and everything else is working fine no cautions

Re: Sata Dvd Rom

Big thanx to justpassingby none of the above worked as is. When i ran the SATA package RAID411a from SIS on its own it didn't fix anything. so i went to the device manager right clicked the the SIS 180 raid controller, went to update driver and pointed it to the 964_180 folder inside the RAID411a it prompted me to restart. it now shows as SIS 180/181 RAID CONTROLLER and everything is fine. just burned a dual layer 8x in well under 15 minutes. Hope this helps somebody :) and thanks again :)
