My DVD RW drive won't read empty CD's

My DVD RW drive won't read any empty CD, so I can't burn any CD. It read DVD's, it burn DVD's, it also read CD's, but it can't burn the empty ones.
I've tried to clean the lens.. didn't help, I've updated the Firmware.. didn't help.
I have SONY DVD RW DW-Q30A, and I'm using Nero Burning ROM v6.6, Win XP Professional SP2.

Please help.

try a different brand of cd
the cd laser may be on it's way out

I've tried 3 different brands but it didn't work with neither of them. And what’s with this “the cd laser may be on it's way out”. Can I fix that or ..?

if the laser is dying there may be enough power to read but not to burn
if that's the case replace the drive
can you try it in another computer to check the drive
