Re: LiteOn SHW-160H6S

Hi... are you trying to update the optical drive's firmware? What you downloaded was not the driver but a firmware update. If you are using XP, you need not driver (AFAIK). Just make sure your BIOS sees the said drive.

Re: LiteOn SHW-160H6S

Yeah I know but the one you downloaded is a firmware and not a driver. My question is.. why are you updating the firmware? The firmware is like BIOS for the disc drive...

Make sure your BIOS supports the drive. If not, may be a a bios update is needed.

Re: LiteOn SHW-160H6S

Usually you do not need any drivers for optical drives. If the drive is not recognized by Windows... first make sure it is recognized by BIOS. Now if it is recognized by bios, follow the steps here:

Re: LiteOn SHW-160H6S

Some list the device model, some shows the name during POST (prime master/slave, secondary master/slave). What I find to be the best way is to set boot sequence with CD/DVD drive on top of the list. Pop in a bootable CD/DVD media like an XP install CD or a linux live CD. If you can boot from the CD/DVD drive, then you are sure, BIOS recognizes it well.
