cannot read external drive

I have a 160g external hard drive that my Fujitsu Life book cannot read. I can see the light on and hear it running but nothing shows. Please help....

Try this method.

Start > Settings > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management.

Under the Storage tab, enter Disk Manager.

Find your Fujitsu hard drive, right-click and create a new partition for it. Follow the steps and it should be working fine. Hope this works.

I got into Disk Management and right-click the particular disk. I had the option to initialize it but it said 'device not ready' So I was not going anywhere. Any idea?

I'm don't remember if they give you this option or not, but try the "Format" option. This should activate your hard drive to be able to partition.
