USB connected external DVDRW takes long time to write
Hi,
My cousin requested me to post his inquiry. He is using Gateway PC (bought some months ago with 64 bit Vista) and he is very fond of video editing. He usually burns his creations on a CD/DVD media. Recently he noticed that this is taking a toll on his internal CD/DVD drive. Given this, he got an USB connected DVDRW (LG) drive. The problem now is that the burning process is taking up time (too much time). Like the 20 min burning of a video using the internal drive, this now takes him 2 hours. He tried to research on the topic but he was not able to get some concrete answers. Here some additional info: 1. USB connected DVD drive to a Gateway PC desktop (Vista 64bit) 2. Label on the DVDRW box says drive supported under Windows 32bit. 3. PC is on Vista 64 with 3GB RAM. Our questions are: 1. Why is the burn to CD/DVD media so slow? 2. Is there something we missed to configure? Isn't this plug and play?

Re: USB connected external DVDRW takes long time to write
Hi there,
Mind let us know what brand of the writer that you are using? from my point i think that you are using the external writer that belongs to laptop external drive am I? One of the factor that takes into account is the power from the usb port to support your external writer. 2nd would be the burning speed of the writer itself. You should have known better that how much is the writting speed for the writer. 3rd would be the transfer rate of the pc to the writer itself. If it is a dvd writer, surely it will takes a long time to write/burn since those internal writer too, need plenty of time and buffer from HDD itself for burning/writing. Thanks |
