OS: Windows XP 2

USB devices all failing
2 SDHC cards and 1 flashdrive and 1 MP3 player all used to run happily via USB with my Compaq laptop. Suddenly, they have all stopped. It's as if they have been blown up - no power at all, plug them in to the USB and nothing happens whatsoever. I'm worried to put anything else in there now. Anyone seen anything like this before? A virus perhaps?
