Not Reading USB Devices
Hello everyone; I've been having problems lately with my USB ports not reading any of the devices I plug into them (USB keys, mice, hard drive, etc.).
They work just fine when my computer first starts up, but as soon as any of the plugs bet bumped, even a little bit, they lose connection with whatever's plugged in. This happens to all the ports at the same time, and might only last a second; but they usually just stay off. And no amount of wiggleing or replugging will make them work (though it used to help). The only way I know to get them working again is by restarting my computer, and pray nobody sneezes. I've gone through the device manager and checked out all the root hubs and host controllers; and they all say they're working perfectly. I've also scanned for hardware changes just in case, but to no avail. I always make sure to click "safely remove hardware" with my USB keys, but I'll usually just yank my mouse out without warning. I don't know if that has anything to do with this problem, but thought I'd add it in just in case. Hope you guys have some ideas cause I'm fresh out. -Talidos PS. I'm using an XPS M1710, about 2 years old, with XP Media Edition |

Re: Not Reading USB Devices
I am having the exact same problem. Compaq presario PC AMD 64 win xp. On bootup the USB ports work and if I unplug anytime after bootup, they will only work again once I reboot and leave plugged in. Furthermore there is no recognition of devices after startup and no recognition of ipod touch or palm treo 700p regardless what I do. No error message. No communication whatsoever. Windows says ports are fine.
What gives, Mark |
