Strange Vanishing Burner Behavior

Hey Gang,

I have a problem that may or may not be related to one addressed in a thread started by SessaBliss. I have paired Lite-On 1653S burners in my Vista Ultimate OS PC. My problem occurs when I start to burn something, with either drive, and accidentally use a disc that is not writable for whatever reason. When that happens I get a little pop-up announcement that the disc is not usable, and it is ejected. The problem is that the drive then goes offline, dismounts or some such. At any rate, it is no longer accessible and does not show in the system as even existing. I can get it back by re-booting, but I am frequently working on something else or running an application that cannot or should not be interrupted. If I am using one drive as a data source while burning with the other, and the one being used as a burner is no longer available I'm S.O.L. Is there anyway I can restore service without a reboot?

Re: Strange Vanishing Burner Behavior

Thanks for your reply.

I can certainly do that, and I will - to cover all the bases. But, this is a recent development. If the jumper settings were not causing this problem in the past, why would they be doing it now? Could a software-environment change modify the effects of the jumper settings?
