CD Drive undeteccted in Vista
My CD-RW HP CD Writer PLUS is having troubles being recognized in vista. I can see the drive just fine in the BIOS but once Vista is going There is no trace of it. Just need to get it working. Thanks for any help.

Re: CD Drive undeteccted in Vista
Hi, Darkfox
So it doesn't show up in Device Manager? Verify that the jumpers are set correctly. Ensure that you have an 80-pin Ultra DMA 100/133 cable. Reseat all the drive cables. (If you want windows to run fast, disable all startup programs, disable all windows services that you will never, ever use and install 2 to 3GB of memory.) |

Re: CD Drive undeteccted in Vista
yeah I've checked all that good stuff. I am positive it is connected properly because I can mess with it in BIOS. It is just no where to be seen in the OS.

Re: CD Drive undeteccted in Vista
Yeah I had it running on my old vista computer. It is set to cable select with jumper. on the main cable:
l-----l---l <--- cd drive ^ l l comp and there is a DVD drive connected to the secondary cable connector.

Re: CD Drive undeteccted in Vista
ok I ran vista Startup Repair and I get an error that says: SystemRepairv2 and something about an external media device. I'm almost positive they are related. I just don't know how to use this information to fix it. Any ideas?
My BIOS are up to date I think. ASUS P5K Deluxe. Haven't downloaded any from internet but I don't think there are any available.

Re: CD Drive undeteccted in Vista
try this it worked for me when my drive wasn't showing up.
In order to delete upper and lower filters you're going to have to edit the registry. The usual cautions apply. If the registry is not edited properly your whole system can crash. 1) Close all open programs 2) Click on Start, Run, and type REGEDIT and press Enter 3) Click on the plus signs (+) or arrows next to the following folders * HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE * SYSTEM * CurrentControlSet * Control * Class * {4D36E965-E325-11CE- BFC1-08002BE10318} 4) This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column. * UpperFilters * LowerFilters * UpperFilters.bak * LowerFilters.bak 5) If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete 6) After deleting the keys, close the Registry Editor 7) Reboot your computer 8) Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone |
