USB hard disk problem
Hi,
Hi i am using Windows XP SP2. I have 80 GB USB hard disk with external casing. When I connetect to usb port, it is detected by OS and shows d drive in the explorer. But when I m trying to d drive, it gives me the error message " The File or Directory is corrupted". I have also checked d hard disk at different computers & laptop but gives d same error. It shows me d RAW file system from the properties of d drive. I dont want to format my hard disk as it contains my important office data. So plz help me how to start d hard disk or tell me another way to protect my data or tell me about the recovery tool dat saves my data Thank you.... |

Re: USB hard disk problem
Okay, run chkdsk /r on whatever drive letter the disk is given when plugged into the computer that gave you the "The File or Directory is corrupted" message.
1) Windows Key + R 2) cmd 3) chkdsk /r d: If this disk is making strange noises, DO NOT USE THE CHKDSK UTILITY. I have read on this forum that it will make all your files 32kb if your disk is damaged. Did this drive come in contact with strong magnets? Is your data worth $89 to you? http://www.grc.com/sr/spinrite.htm |
