CDs not recognised

Using HP Compaq 6710b with Vista business.

all i want to do is add music from cds to itunes but cds are not being recognised. in My Computer i go to open D:\ and it says insert disc when there's one in there. i close the disc door, it hums and buzzes then spits it open again saying insert disc.

why oh why. please help, thank you

remove the upper and lower filters
