[SOLVED] Replacing a IDLE DVD Burner with a SATA DVD Burner

I have a Dell Dim 8400 Desktop PC. My IDLE DVD Burner (NEC ND-3530A) malfunctioned and needs to be replaced. Since my warranty is still good for almost another 9 months, Dell is sending me a NEC SATA DVD Burner, model not known. Can someone please tell me how to replace this drive, or show me how to accomplish this. Thank you in advance. Enjoy Ya'll

Re: Replacing a IDLE DVD Burner with a SATA DVD Burner

I looked at both links and they both are for installing a IDLE DVD Drive, and not a SATA. So,I'll still be waiting to find more info. But,thanks for trying. Enjoy Ya'll

Re: Replacing a IDLE DVD Burner with a SATA DVD Burner

Down load the manual from HERE. It is a PDF so you will need Adobe acrobat or similar PDF reader.
Remove old drive (see page 100 of linked Manual)
Install new drive where you removed old one.
The cables are different for the SATA drive, they are exactly the same as the ones for the Hard Drive.
The drive should come with the correct cables but if not repost and we can link you to sata cables.
The wide IDE cable is no longer needed you can either remove it completely or just tuck it up out of the way.
Run the new data cable from the DVD to the sata connector alongside the one the Hard Drive is connected to on the Motherboard.
You then have to connect the power to the drive .
See if there is a spare connector the same as the one on the hard Drive (there should be one as this Computer allows for multiple Hard drives).
Close the case and reboot your computer
The drive should be recognized as drivers would have been installed for the Hard Drive
Anything you are not sure of please post back on another computer before you proceed

Re: Replacing a IDLE DVD Burner with a SATA DVD Burner

Recieved a NEC ND-3650A SATA DVD Burner, and installed. Had to disconnect my extra storage hard drive, since I only have two SATA power supplies inside the case. Now I need to either get Dell to supply me with an adatper from the IDLE power supply to the SATA power supply, or have to buy myself. Either way, my pc is back up and running again. Thank you all for your help. Enjoy Ya'll
