DVD drives will read/write Cds but will not DVDs

I have a AMD X2 6000+ based system running with 4GB RAM and the Vista SP1 OS.

At the same time this week, both drives suddenly failed to read or write DVD's. Data DVDs, movie DVDs, it matters not.

I have confirmed both drives read and write CDs.

However, when a DVD is present in the drive and I click on the drive letter in explorer, I get a message, "Insert a disc" and the drive opens with the DVD in the tray.

I have searched google and this forum and tried many of the suggestions. None have worked. I have deleted the filters in the registry, I have download and install the newest firmware. I have replace the IDE cables, I even tried to plug them up to IDE to SATA converters.

Both drives are seen in the bios and in Vista device manager. Device manager says both drives are working properly.

I have uninstalled both drive in device manager, rebooted. I have even installed ForceASPI17.

Nothing works.

I have ordered a new drive but I don't think it will work either.

I feel this is a software problem but who knows?

Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Re: DVD drives will read/write Cds but will not DVDs

Hi,
Uninstall the drive completely. Disconnect it from the motherboard and power supply.
Restart your pc without it and clean your hard drive and registry.
This free program will help you, and it offers to back-up the registry before cleaning so remember to accept the back-up..........
http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/

Restart after cleaning, let windows load properly then Shut-Down.

With the machine off and unpugged, install your CD/DVD Drive once again and boot the pc.
