Angry Burning problems to dvd+tw disks

I have a HP DVD Writer 1040i and it came with Nero 7 and it supports dvd+- rw disk but everytime i try to make a data disk to any dvd+rw disk it always tells me burn failed after it starts. I have contacted Nero Support and they said i needed to upgrade so they sent me the upgrade and i installed it after they told me what to do and it still won't burn. I can burn disk to dvd-r or +r disk but nothing else and i contacted HP about the problem since the drive is only 96 days old but they will not reply back to no emails and when i called they said they could not hear me over the phone so i beleive they are just doing that to keep me from returning the drive to them to check out. Is there anyone that could tell me what the problem is cause i am tired of emailing and can't get my work done.

Use the Guided Help.

Evil Re: Burning problems to dvd+tw disks

I tried what it said on the microsoft page but it still does the same thing. My dvd +- writer will read and record on dvd/r's but not on dvd/rw's and this drive says it does support dvd+-/rw disk but it's a lie. I'm fixing to format my HD today and i will try it again to see if it works this time being freash and hope it will work.

Re: Burning problems to dvd+tw disks

Hi,
Uninstall the drive completely. Disconnect it from the motherboard and power supply.
Restart your pc without it and clean your hard drive and registry.
This free program will help you, and it offers to back-up the registry before cleaning so remember to accept the back-up..........
http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/

Restart after cleaning, let windows load properly then Shut-Down.

With the machine off and unpugged, install your CD/DVD Drive once again and boot the pc.

Thanks i did just that today and i formated my HD and it still does the same old thing, nothing for dvd+rw disk. HP will not respond back to me after they ask for a copy of my proof of buying it for some reason unless they are going to send me another drive but i know they won't and Nero gave up cause they said it wasn't in there software but i know it's some wheres that something is very wrong so i guess i will just give up and not but another HP brand again. Thanks for your reply and help and have a rest of a nice Sunday.

Re: Burning problems to dvd+tw disks

Hi, if you reformatted the hard drive AND physically reinstalled the Drive, then the obvious conclusion must be it's faulty.

The only other diagnostic you could possibly carry out is installing it in another system to see if it works.
A Firmware update may solve the problem, but they are risky. You need to know what you're doing and of course there has to be an update available.

Hey, all isn't lost just yet.
You could try a Firmware update.
Look on the HP Website first....

But I'd keep calling them for a replacement. It's only 100 days old ffs!

Thanks but there isn't any firmware update for this dvd writer. That was what Nero and HP ask me to do the first time and i checked that before they wrote back. Every time i made a call to HP they told me they could not hear me and sometimes they said i was breaking up and for me to call back at a later time and i have done made 15 calls to HP and every time it's the same old thing. I just will not buy anymore HP products at all and i could have at the time i got this writer Liteon cheaper and it had everything this HP does and yesterday i checked and they had a samsung that writes everything just for 79.97 and if the store would take this thing back i would get the samsung for sure. I have tried everything in the book to get it to write to my dvd+rw's and i have used 30 of them and they just will not work even the ones i paid 59.99 for 100 of them on sale. Got to go mow a yard now in this HOT weather and i will come back and try and do something to get it to work and call HP again.

Write a letter of complaint and send it by Registered Mail to "the Manager" at HP. You'll get your money back. Works every time.
