CD/DVDs won't read

Hi, i'm running an HP media center pc, and my TSSTcorp CD/DVDW ts-h552l drive decided not to read discs anymore. When i went into device manager, no errors appeared. So my question is, why won't my computer read the discs? any help is appreciated

Re: CD/DVDs won't read

okay i'll try that in a bit, but the drive does show up, and no error message appears. it just doesn't read. a little green light shows up when it is reading something, and that appears, but just nothing happens.

Check to see if you've gone into PIO mode.

Re: CD/DVDs won't read

uninstall the cd/dvd from the device manager and reboot
if still no good uninstall and reinstall your burning software
if still no joy
try the drive on another computer,if the problem is replicated, try cleaning the laser or replace the drive

Re: CD/DVDs won't read

i still have nothing. how would i clean the laser? i'm guessing that's the problem, because it acts like it is reading as it shows the green lights on it.

I have the same issue with the same TS-H552L drive. For some reason it's able to Lightscribe discs, but it won't read CD-Rom's, DVD's or CD's. As soon as you put a disc in the drive, the green light on the drive flashes and then just stops. When you go to My Computer, the icon doesn't show that there's a disc in the drive. I'm beyond frustrated with this POS.
