failure of cd/dvd drives

My 2 drives have stopped working. They are TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-H652L and ASUS DVD-E616A. I am using XP SP3, but the problem started while I was on SP2. I tried using System Restore - but that is not working either!
I have also tried un-installing and re-installing without success.
According to the Device Manager: A driver (service) for this device has been disabled. An alternate driver may be providing this funcionality (code 32).
The driver listed (for both drives) is Microsoft 5.1.2535.0 dated 01/07/2001, and under Details the File version is given as:
5.1.2600.2180(xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158).
Any ideas?

Re: failure of cd/dvd drives

I have seen that page and used the guided help a couple of days ago.
It did not fix the problem.
I used regedit this time and their are no filters listed under that class!

Thank you for responding

Re: failure of cd/dvd drives

cdrom and flpydisk are listed under services.
each has an enum entry containing a few items.
i don't know which one in particular i should look at or what to change it to.
