To keep it short, I re installed Vista HP because I had a minor problem and this was the quickest way over it.
Everything worked perfectly for the rest of the evening. Next day when I booted up my 2 DVDRW Drives were not working. I have checked everything I can think of and the system tells me they are there and the drivers are up to date but windows still will not recognize them. I just get the message: This device cannot start (code 10) I think there is a problem with Vista but am ubable to re install again because the drives don't work. I changed the boot options so that CD ROM became the primary option and set about re installing Vista. Just after inserting the product key I get a message telling me that the install has been halted and to install instead from within windows..........I can't do that because the drives are not recognized by windows. Catch 22, Stalemate. Tried to contact Microsoft but as usual they won't answer anything without crossing their palm with silver. Any answers to this problem would be appreciated. |

Re: CD DVD ROM Problem
Thanks for that Paul. I am very wary of doing anything in the registry though because I know what trouble can be caused by one simple mistake, but if I have to I will go down that route eventually.

Re: CD DVD ROM Problem
Hi Terry,
I know what you mean about the registry but if you back it up before make any changes you should have no problems. Good luck. Paul

Re: CD DVD ROM Problem
Hi again Paul.
I followed the procedure to backup the registry before doing anything else and then decided to check restore to make sure the backup was there before starting with any registry changes. This is the message that was flagged up when trying to open system restore. The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect (0x8007007B) System Restore will now close. It seems that I cannot open System Restore. |
