WMP11 stopped cd/dvd device working

Okay I hope I am posting this in the right place. I was ripping music to WMP11 when the disk I had inserted paused through the first song so instead of pressing stop rip I just ejected the disk. Now I gather the disk was scratched but that didnt mater when I put other scratced disks in. Then I tried to rip again but the disk didnt register. I couldnt burn I couldnt even play my windows cd. So I had a look at the error reporting and it saide The device,\Device\CdRom0, has a bad block. I then went to run and went to regedit and deleted all upper and lower strings from HKEY-SYSTEM CURRENT\CONTROLSET\CONTROL\CLASS\4d36e965-e325-11ce-bfc0800zbe10318. Restarted my computer and it wouldnt boot properly it just went to a black screen. So I restared again from last known good configuration. My dvd device isnt very old and it still opens and closes when I put a disk in it nearly registers it but stops. Please help I cant seem to fix the problem and have gone and got books and posted everywhere to no avail. Is there someone out there who knows whats going on!!!

can you try the drive in another computer to see if you damaged the drive
