audio, data cd question

when i burn an audio cd, windows media player tells me it can only hold 80 minutes of music but my cds have 700 mb of memory and it can utilize it if i am burning data cds. why is this? is it because of the file system? the size of the tracks? the settings on windows media player?

For audio CDs, 700MB is 80 minutes worth of music.

Welcome to TSF.

The 80 minutes are for music that hasn't been compressed (MP3 etc).
If you convert the audio to MP3 there can be much more music on the CD - i.e. more minutes, the max. amount of data the CD can hold is, of course, the same.

thank you :) i thought that could be it but i found it odd that windows media player showed me minutes left as opposed to memory remaining.
