dvd rw installation problems
Our Dell XPS's (running XP) old dvd rw died a couple of months ago. I finally purchased a replacement (Samsung 'Writemaster) and when I install it and reboot, neither the existing CD Rw drive nor the new DVD Rw drive is recognized by the computer. Both have power and can be opened/closed. This came with no driver. When I disconnected (EIDE cable connections) the DVD RW, the CD RW was back.
I am strictly novice. Any help would be appreciated. |

Re: dvd rw installation problems
Hello and welcome to the forum
![]() Take a look at the jumpers on the old drive and compare to the jumpers on the new one . . Both drives cannot be jumpered as Master or Slave . . ![]()

Re: dvd rw installation problems
Look at the photo again . . it is not a cable . . it is a little jumper that you move to select Master, Slave or Cable Select ( system decides )
