Boot windows from PCI IDE card
Hi and thanks for reading this.
I'm kind of a newb with this stuff, but I managed to learn some important things about my computer. First of all, my onboard primary IDE controller toasted (dunno if that's a good expression ). The thing is when I try to connect any device to that port, BIOS will recognize it but with some odd symbols and, in the case of OS HD, it won't boot up; with data HD and dvd drives, windows will see them but there's like a read/write error. I gave up with the mobo port, and my dad managed to get me a PCI IDE controller card so I could be able to rescue my dvd drives (rom and rw). Here's where the fun starts: the card does not recognize the dvd drives. Well, I was reading before my post and discover that some of this cards only work for HDs. Then I decided to move the dvds to the secondary onboard port and the HDs to the pci card. Everything seemed fine until I discovered windows wasn't loading. Checked BIOS boot settings and there were only three options: floppy, dvd-rom and dvd-ram.Since then I've benn looking for a way to get the OS HD to boot from the pci card but the only options shown in the card bios are referred to RAID.. ![]() Now I'm testing the data HD in the card and it seems to work fine, but the card purchase would be useless if I can't make the system to boot from it. Any help is appreciated ![]() For the record, the card is a COMPUSA Ultra ATA/133 PCI Card P.D.: Forgive me about my lousy english ![]() |
