cd drive problem

Hi,
I have Medion laptop, xp pro, SP2, and " Matshita DVD-ram UJ 840S". My photo Cd's opens, but as blank (empty). Some audio Cd's play no problem". It is not possible to burn cd, as well.
Burning process goes as usually, completed normally, but cd is still empty
DVD disc plays and burn normal. I am afraid that I changed something in setting, since all happened when I burned on DVD disc for the first time with Nero 6 program

Is this a brand new DVD writer? Try lowering the speed of your burning process if you have a max speed of 16x try buring it to 4-8x.
By the way you mention some audio cd plays, do you mean that not all audio cd plays on your dvd writer?

Hi Friends,

I am using Compaq Presario V 3700 series laptop with Windows Vista - Home Basic verion.

Initially my laptop used to function well, but all of a sudden the DVD-RAM is not getting detected and hence i am not able to use the same. When i check on the properties it states that "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)". The details of DVD is MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ-860H ATA DEVICE.

Request to kindly help me solve this problem. Pls mail me the website details from where i can download this driver / software.

I have the same problem with this drive in a Medion MD 95500 of a relative.
Thouroughly cleaning of laser og discs improve a little but it should not be as critical as it is. Firmware update did not help.
Did you , anna_marija, find a solution in the mean time?
I'm looking for how to replace the drive with another one. There was no help to get from Medion Support, DK unless advice to look by Google and in forums.
