Philips DVDR1628P1 DVD Burner Not Detected
Hey guys,
I have recently installed a Philips DVDR1628P1 DVD Burner onto my system (WinVistaSP1) The drive is detected fine by the BIOS and is present in Device Manager however it is showing no driver installed and is not present in the My Computer screen. I have been unable to try updating the firmware as every patch i have downloaded must be applied to the drive within windows which is not being detected. I was wondering if there were any hints / tips or perhaps a generic driver for the DVD/RW drive for windows vista? Thanks in advance :) |

Re: Philips DVDR1628P1 DVD Burner Not Detected
I have also tried to remove the upper and lower filters in the registry following instructions from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929461
I have discovered that there are no upper or lower filters in the specified section of the registry The message displayed in device manager is " The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28) There is no driver selected for the device information set or element. To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver." |

BUMP!!
I've had a dvdr1628p1 for about a year now but all of a sudden Windows claims there are no drivers for it! This is very sudden and frustrating!! It is not a problem with the drive, it gets detected in the BIOS and it works perfectly in Linux... so its Microsnot's fault this is happening!! ![]() Could somebody please help. I've looked on Google for drivers but all I get are firmware upgrades and I can't even install those because Micro$not Windows can't even recognize it! ... |

I wish I could help but . . .
I also have a Philips DVDR 1628P1 and MS Vista is giving me the same problem; I state Vista is giving the problem as the Philips drive has no problem while I’m booting the same machine from my other SATA drive with my XP SP2 operating Sys but as soon as I boot my Vista Sys I have exactly the same problem as you guys, so I guess the problem lies with Philips not supporting this drive in Vista. ![]() It doesn't really both me much because I mainly boot to XP it’s just that I have been building up this other HD with a Vista Sys for the day when I decide to move over to Vista full time . . . but for me this day is a long way off, I am getting so many problems with this Vista. However if you are committed to Vista your only option is possibly to remove the Philips drive throw it in the bin and buy a new one preferably from a manufacturer who will support their hardware better than Philips. ![]() |

Re: Philips DVDR1628P1 DVD Burner Not Detected
This is probably too late for you now? But if you make backups or perhaps System Restore could fix it?
I restored to a backup of just 2 days ago and that fixed it |

So was it a Vista update or a Prog I had installed that caused the Drive to disagree with its driver? Anyway perhaps I was to hasty slating Philips. ![]() Moderator please remove my previous unfinished message Last edited by RichardsOffice : 06-01-2008 at 05:25 AM. |

Re: Philips DVDR1628P1 DVD Burner Not Detected
My advice – and I am no expert – is:-
Will your Philips Burner read any CD’s at all? Will it write to a new CD? If the answer is No; then hit the Del button on boot-Up to get into your Bios and check your new Motherboard correctly recognises the firmware of your CD burner if this is ok look at uninstalling the burner from your Windows XP ??? System and manually reinstalling - or as per the burners installation guide. |
