2.5in USB SATA & Enclosure Problem
I hope I'm posting this in the correct section.
I have a strange problem and I hope someone maybe able to help. If I can set the scene first: I upgraded my HDD in my PS3 and was left with the original Seagate Momentus +5v, 0.48A & FW 3.14, details here - http://www.seagate.com/ww/v/index.jsp?locale=en-US&name=Momentus_5400.2_60_GB&vgnextoid=d2ad99f4fa74c010VgnVCM100000dd04090aRCRD&vgnextchannel=ab5fd21c2f32b010VgnVCM100000dd04090aRCRD&reqPage=Model I wanted to put this HDD into a USB Enclosure/Caddy and use it as a portable storage solution. The enclosure is USB Bus powered and comes with a dual USB cable (Pwr/Data & Pwr only). However, the drive will not 'spin up' when connected by the USB cable/Enclosure and therefore is recognised by XP as an 'unknown device' with no driver support. Here's what I have done so far: Tested enclosure with another SATA HDD (non PS3/Seagate) - Works Tested HDD inside PS3 again - Works Connected HDD via SATA connections internally to my MOBO - Works Tested with other USB cables - No Change/Not Recognised Tested USB Enclosure on PS3 - No Change/Not Recognised LOLSo, I am left with the assumption that the USB Enclosure is not supplying enough power to the Momentus HDD and is somehow restricting/down rating the supply from my USB 2.0 Hub. Of note is that all other USB devices work 100% in my PC & PS3 Hubs. Is this possible? Can a 2.5in HDD be incompatible with a generic enclosure? I'm usually pretty good with this stuff but this has stumped me. Many thanks to any help received/offered.
